30 Years Serving the Great Lakes Region

Alice and her family had many dogs over the years and had even had a Puli once... albeit 30 years ago. With the loss of their old Collie and at her family’s insistence she agreed to a new puppy. Cute as Shag was by 5 months of age Alice was exhausted and at the suggestion of a friend she called Animal Learning Systems. As the Principle of a Montessori school, Alice knew the value of a good education early in life, as so Shag was enrolled in an Off Leash Training Program. After 6 short weeks Shag returned home with the lessons needed to make him a great companion and mascot for her school.

“I had forgotten just how much energy an energetic puppy could have, let alone require to manage. Now Shag is a pleasurable companion to me at home, on the go, and at school where the children love a well behaved dog.”

Vera has had dogs all of her life, but when Frankie was added into the mix of a 3 year old Standard Poodle and a 10 year old Miniature Poodle, chaos prevailed. Frankie at 15 months had instigated a number of fights with each of the other dogs. The 2 senior dogs were set in their ways and didn’t need an upstart to push them around. Fortunately, Verna sought help and after completing an Off- Leash Training Program, Frankie was controlled and mannered enough to be fully accepted by the entire family.

“We’re doing great in Tucson, and Frankie adds so much enjoyment to all our lives. He plays with Reggie & Chet all the time, obeys me and Baxter, and is so loving with all of us! We‘re very glad we turned him over to you for training – best thing we could have done! Thank you, again, so very much.”

Carbon came to us at 11 months old. Already a bully, he played too rough with children, had established himself as an effective hunter of squirrels and birds, and was generally incorrigible. Frustrated and embarrassed by their dog, Carbon’s family elected an Off Leash Training Program to allow their pet to integrate into the family and their travels more fully.

“Animal Learning Systems' training of our Dalmatian enabled him to become a fully integrated member of our family of 3 vibrant boys. Our dog can move freely with us through our home and surrounding community with little guidance. The overall experience has been a phenomenal success!”

Leslie Kusky

Leslie Kusky
Farmington Hills, Michigan

We met Leslie and Tucker when Tucker was just 10 weeks old. A gift to Leslie from her cousin, Tucker was already a big and enthusiastic puppy. Despite her disability Leslie is a very active person who lives with her husband and 2 cats, the latter 3 not so sure they needed a dog in the family! After exploring training options Leslie chose an Off-Leash Training Program to allow her to enjoy her gift without concern for herself or the dog’s safety. Working together we saw them through house training, early socialization, and in-home manners, until it was time for Tucker to enter the more formal stages of his companion training. By the age of 6 months Tucker was a fully integrated and trained companion.

“Because of my spinal disability, I need a dog that is gentle, obedient and well mannered. After initially working with Tucker and becoming frustrated, I contacted Animal Learning Systems for help. Tucker was soon off to training and after nearly two months he returned as the dream-dog I have always wanted. I love to show him off in public because I am so proud. Tucker now goes everywhere with me off-leash and I feel safe for both of us. Tucker often returns to Jim and his wonderful staff at ALS for vacations when I travel.”

Everyone loved Figaro, but at age 2 he had a few kinks that made him hard to like. Difficult to walk, too, he loved to tour the neighborhood on his own by bolting out of doors, often exuberantly jumping on neighbors he encountered along the way. After a few escorts home in a squad car Figaro’s family elected an Off Leash Training Program to teach him manners necessary for a suburban dog with a busy lifestyle.

“Figaro used to run. Fast and Far. Now he stays close and listens to us thanks to Jim and the staff at Animal Learning Systems. He’s still confident and spirited but more willing to follow our commands. Now taking walks and greeting passers-by is a joy.”
